Апстракт: For applications in biomechanics and biomedical engineering, a simulation model is often needed to understand and explain the mechanical properties and functional behaviours of the muscle. For this purpose, a great variety of muscle models has been created over the years, differing in intended application, mathematical complexity, level of physiological structures considered, and fidelity to biological behaviour. Up to the author’s knowledge, regardless of great efforts in the area of muscle modelling in past few decades, a comprehensive, modular and scalable software platform for micromechanical muscle modelling has not yet been developed. In this work, a computational platform MUSICO (MUscleSImulationCOde) for modelling realistic sarcomeric system is described. It has been developed with the aim to simulate a wide variety of experimental muscle behaviour. The platform offers a modular program structure that allows extension and replacement of any part of sarcomeric system (calcium activation, cross-bridge cycle, sarcomere geometry, etc.).
